The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) is a free trade agreement between 11 countries in the Asia-Pacific region: Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, and Vietnam. The agreement aims to reduce trade barriers and increase economic integration among member countries. The CPTPP was signed in March 2018 and came into force on December 30, 2018.
In September 2021, China applied to join the CPTPP; less than a week later, Taiwan did the same. Neither nation has yet been approved. Accession to the agreement requires consensus from existing members.
